To: Chris, General Manager, KLSN, 92.9 FM, Oakley California
Thank you very much for taking my phone call this morning. I am especially
appreciative of your reassuring me that your community radio station will be
broadcasting its usual format when you receive your new transmitter.
I have retired and don't drive much anymore, and I read more than I listen to
the car radio these days.
But when I found KLSN last year I was surprised and much heartened. The
depth of your playlist really impressed me. I have actually started listening to
the radio at home.
I'm 76 years old, not exactly the demographic you seek, but probably what you'll
get with all the retirees in Brentwood. As you can see from my age, I was
conscious and aware and lived through the periods when most of your music was
popular.
To a degree that I have not seen in other classic hits radio stations, your
playlist has a depth that is surprising. If I remember correctly you went
back into the 50s for some obscure songs that I've never heard but which were
wonderful. I feel as though I missed out on something when I was growing
up, and even later.
I specifically remember a day, when, driving out a parking lot where I had been
to visit an office for some business, I heard Marianne Faithfull -- The Ballad
Of Lucy Jordan -- and I was astonished. It's an amazing song that I had never
heard and I look forward to further such discoveries.
My wife and I went back East for several months over Thanksgiving and Christmas
and I missed your station. When I got back and found out that you were off
the air I really felt bad for all of you.
It's not just the playlist -- the announcers and the community spirit embodied
in their performance seemed to convey the atmosphere that I would expect
in a homegrown American Public radio.
Thanks for listening to me, I look forward to hearing your station back on the
air.
